Live Chat / Virtual Assistant Example

Recently I logged on to a financial app and I discovered that the application featured both a live chat and virtual assistant at the same time. Rather than having to first chat with a virtual assistant to get to a live agent, the customer could interact with both. I thought at first this would be overwhelming, however I was able to ask the virtual assistant a question to prepare for the live chat with the agent.

How do you feel about this interaction pattern?
